History of LM2

On January 26th, 1824, Bros. Payne, Edwardson and Kemp – after mature deliberation and having the good of Fraternity at heart, unanimously determined to apply to the “Leinster Permanent Committee of Australia” for a dispensation to hold a Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons for the purpose of the better dissemination of the Order in this remote corner of the world.

A memorial to this effect was forwarded to that Body and a most gracious answer received from the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Australia, Matthew Beacon, Esq., accompanied by the desired Dispensation, constituting the applicants, William Lawrence Edwardson, John Payne and Richard Kemp, the Master and Wardens of a new Lodge by the name, style and title of the “Leinster Marine Lodge of Australia”.

Thursday, February 12th, Bro. Edwardson was regularly and duly installed by the Right Worshipful Master, Wardens, Treasurer and Secretary of the Australia Social Lodge No. 260 (Currently known as Lodge Antiquity No.1) on the Registry of Ireland as the Leinster Marine Lodge of Australia No. 266 to be held at Hill’s Tavern, Hyde Park, Sydney, New South Wales.
